In Malealea Valley, Lesotho I was able to spend a week of ministry teaching music at a nearby high school. It was such an incredible experience and probably one of my favorite weeks on the race. I was able to teach the students folk dances, rhythmic games, and different songs, and we were able to create something bigger than ourselves. Throughout the week I was able to watch the students slowly gain confidence and feel more comfortable in the classroom. It was just such a fulfilling experience to be able to connect with the students through music!!

After my time in the classroom I sat with the Lord to thank Him for such a fruitful week. I felt so full from being able to serve in a way that aligned with my passions, and I was so grateful for that opportunity. Thanks and praise just poured out of me.

In between thanks, I heard the Lord whisper, “what if you do this right after the race?”

I immediately laughed and then told God, “that was a funny joke.” I thought going into my first teaching job after the race would be insane because I get back at the end of June and teaching jobs start the beginning of August. That’s a quick turn around.

Then He said, “no really what if you taught right after the race?”

At this point I was getting a tad flustered and frustrated— like I just wanted to thank the Lord for a great week and now He wants to talk about post World Race plans. It felt like a joke!

Eventually, I replied saying, “okay God. If you want me to work right after the race I’ll do it, but only for my dream job. I am not doing a three week turn around for just any school. If you open my dream job then I’ll apply, and if I get it then I’ll accept.”

The next day I got a text message from one of my friends saying that a Priest from the nearby Catholic school asked for my resume for a music teacher position.

I felt like God pranked me.

Within a few days I sent in my resume and by the end of the week I was asked to Zoom with the Principal and Assistant Principal.

In that conversation, they asked me what my ideal position would be and after I described my dream job the principal said to me, “Well I hate to break it to you, but we have your dream job right here.”

I left that Zoom call with butterflies in my stomach and feeling giddy. The position sounds perfect and the community of the school is incredibly supportive.  We left the call saying that we would pray about the position and have a final interview in a month.

During that month the Lord was really sweet with me and reassured me of any fear I had. He just continued to remind me that He would provide for all my needs and I just needed to trust in His will for me. Through discernment I learned that this is where He wants me to be next year, so when I was offered the job in my interview I joyfully accepted the position.

After the World Race I will be moving to Indianapolis where I will be the music teacher for Our Lady of Mount Carmel School.

I know moving to a new city is going to be challenging and scary; however, I am mostly excited. I cannot wait to be stretched by this experience and to see what the Lord has in store for me.

I trust that it’s all going to be good.
